About Queen Adelaide
Queen Adelaide Needlecraft began in Australia over twenty years ago. For two decades the company criss-crossed the country, exhibiting and selling tramme trapestries at shows. Increasing costs led to the business being reborn in 2006 as an online retailer. Now based in Sydney, Queen Adelaide Needlecraft aims to bring you only the best in tramme tapestry designs and supplies. Our website will continue to grow as we source new products and canvases in the future.
We regret that we do not have a printed catalogue at this time.
About Our Canvases
Queen Adelaide canvases all feature Zweigart 100% cotton "Penelope" duo canvas. We use only 100% Australian wool, both for the tramming and for the provided stitching wool. All tramming is hand-stitched in China.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to use a frame to stitch a tramme tapestry?
It's not strictly necessary, but we strongly recommend it. You'll find you get a much better result if you do.
How do I stitch the design?
To stitch a Queen Adelaide tramme tapestry, just use the normal half-cross stitch ("Continental") over the trammed woollen line exactly as you would stitch over the printed line on a printed canvas. (See image at right.)
What if I run out of wool?
Every effort is made to ensure the wool supplied with this tramme tapestry is more than sufficient to complete the tramme design – using the normal half-cross stitch. If however, you find the wool is not sufficient (and you are using the half-cross stitch) then please contact us. You may be required to send us a small sample of the missing wool so we can match it up for you.
How much background wool do I need to purchase?
Your Queen Adelaide tramme tapestry comes with wool to complete the trammed sections of the design. Any areas of blank canvas are entirely up to you. We recommend DMC Grounding Wool or other similar tapestry wools. One skein of grounding wool should cover an area approximately 20cm x 10cm (8" x 4").
What do I do with the canvas once I've finished it?
Your canvas has probably become stretched out of shape, so we recommend that you have it blocked. It's possible to do this on your own, but you may find that professional blocking gives a better result. Then your canvas can be assembled in many different ways: as a cushion, stool, firescreen, bell pull, or simply framed to hang on the wall. We do not recommend covering framed tapestry pieces with glass; the glass can trap in moisture that can lead to mold and deterioration. Once your item is finished, you may also want to have it valued for insurance purposes. For all framing and valuation needs, we recommend Tapestry Craft in Sydney.
